About Us

History

Sacred Heart School is a small Catholic school located in the heart of historic Rockaway Borough in Morris County, New Jersey.  It is a vital part of Sacred Heart Parish for it was the Parishioners who decided to build a parish school which would give an education including moral development as well as academic teaching.
Sacred Heart has grown from an enrollment of 65 students in kindergarten through grade three to over 200 students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Since our opening in September, 1965, progress was made each year as necessary programs and facilities were added. We could see that our school was becoming well equipped for superior education and developing into a long sought dream.

On June 17, 1971, our parish school had its first graduating class consisting of fifteen students. Since then, hundreds of students have completed their elementary education at Sacred Heart and have gone on to a variety of competitive Catholic, private and public schools in the area.
Sacred Heart School is a part of the Paterson Diocese School System and is administered under its guidelines and directives. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The student population is drawn from Rockaway, Denville, and many other surrounding communities.

Sacred Heart School has been the recipient of several prestigious rewards and recognitions.  We are an AdvancED Accredited School; we are designated a STAR School for our reading program; and we've received Best Practice Awards from the Diocese of Paterson for our peer mentoring program, career day, literature program, and parent survey activities.

We visited many schools in the Morris County area for first-grade for our son. As soon as we walked into Sacred Heart School, we could feel the energy of the parents and teachers at the open-house we attended. We knew right then that this was where we wanted our children to be.

Soon into the school year, we could sense the high caliber of teaching he was receiving. He is motivated on a daily basis to become goal-oriented, socialized and well-adjusted. The teachers are always approachable and gracious. They bring their life long love of learning into the classroom on a daily basis.
