Second Grade Program

Math - The second grade math program strengthens and increases the students' ability to add, subtract, measure time and money, fractions and graphs as they are reviewed and reinforced. The year's program ends with an introduction to the use of calculators and the beginning of multiplication tables.

Reading - The reading program begun in first grade is continued and developed in the second grade. Children are grouped according to abilities and given enrichment and help as needed. Word attack is developed through a more advanced study of phonics and the use of the dictionary. There is a program to encourage children to use the library and to read at home.
