Religious Education Program
The purpose of the Religious Education Program is to form the child in Christ in his relationship to Jesus, His Father and the Holy Spirit. In fulfilling this purpose, the children are taught doctrine as stated in the 'Basic Teachings for Catholic Education' set forth by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. The children are exposed to the Gospel of Jesus and are shown that the "Good News" gives meaning to life. Opportunities for celebration of the sacraments, and especially the Lord's Supper, are prepared by and for the children. Experiences of the traditional, scriptural and spontaneous types of prayer are provided for the child. Life experiences of the child are examined and parallels are drawn from the Gospels. Lived examples of parents, teachers, saints and other persons of commitment to the Gospel are used to encourage the children to see that the Christian Message can be lived with success. The faith and morals of Catholicism are taught during a special period, but they permeate the entire curriculum.
Sacramental Program
Children's instruction in preparation for the reception of the sacraments is part of the religious program. As a rule, children of the second grade receive the Sacrament of Penance in March and Holy Communion in May. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered to the children in high school.
