School Life

Co-curricular Activites

Sacred Heart School has a number of events and activities that occur throughout the school year. In addition to academic programs, school activities create a sense of community among our students, their families and the staff.

Sacred Heart’s Co-curricular Activities include:

  • Student Government – The Sacred Heart School Student Government permits a democratic school organization to function in conjunction with the faculty and administration to promote a more efficient school operation and provides for a better education.
  • Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program
  • Altar Servers – Boys and girls in grades four through eight who have received First Holy Communion are invited to become altar servers.
  • School Paper – The “School Scoop” is an outgrowth of the language arts program. An adult moderator will coordinate the writing, editing and printing of the paper with a staff of students.
  • Basketball – The CYO Basketball teams are open to the boys and girls in the upper grades for the Varsity team and the lower grades for the Junior Varsity teams. Tryouts are held in the fall and games are played on Sunday afternoon during the winter session. Practices are held outside of school hours.
Cheerleading – The CYO Cheerleading squads are open to girls in the upper grades (5 through 8) for the Varsity squad and the lower grades (2 through 4) for the Junior Varsity squads. Tryouts are held in the fall, and the squads cheer on Sunday afternoons during the winter session. Practices are held outside of school hours.
  • Drama Club –Sacred Heart School is proud to offer the Drama Club for students in grades 5th - 8th. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays after school until 3:15pm. Your child will get on-stage experience and be directed by eighth grade students. This is a fun way for your child to break into the wonderful world of drama and to be able to participate in their live, on-stage production. In addition, the students learn to speak in front of an audience, to adhere to stage direction and and how to act. Please contact Mrs. Jackie Hendershot for more information.
  • School Musical–Volunteer parents presents an annual musical theatre in conjunction with hired professionals for directing, choreography and music to the students of Sacred Heart School and the general public.  Some past productions include The Music Man, The Boy Friend, Once Upon a Mattress, The Wizard of Oz, and Bye, Bye Birdie. This year's show should be exciting and will be announced by web and newsletter soon.
  • Art–Many of Sacred Heart's students are involved in our after-school art program led by Mrs. Sopira and her Van Grow Art Instruction. In this program, the students work in the numerous media of art in preparation for the annual, year-end art show.  Come down and see the beautiful work that our students do!
  • Dance–Miss Susan Peterson, whose experience includes 9 years with the New York City Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, teaches ballet, tap and jazz to Sacred Heart's students. They learn the various techniques necessary to become proficient in the various types of dance.
    • Classes are held on Mondays from 2:30pm until 6:00pm . New this year is an Adult Tap Class held from 6:00pm until 7:00pm.
    • This year's recital was held on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Morris Knolls High School. What wonderful performances from all of our students! Christie S. was the recipient of next year's dance scholarship - Congratulations!
